Question
The project investigates empirically how couples with younger children activate and use social support. Based on individuell support networks and ressources the main focus is how parents negotiate processes of social support with each other. In a more socio-political manner the dissertation addresses as well the relation of informal and formal support.
Goals
The dissertation intends to produce a substantive theory on the negotiation processes of couples concerning social support. It attempts as well a further development of the social support concept through combining it with theoretical approaches of social network and social capital research. By linking processes of informal and formal support, finally, socio-political implication will be discussed.
Methods
The methodological fundament of the dissertation is the grounded theory methodology. The Study constructs a mixed method design that combines couple interviews and individual interviews and uses quantitative and qualitative network tools to build up and analyze egocentric networks.
