The advent of „location based mobile dating applications“ (LBMDA) such as Tinder or Grindr has started to change the culture of love profoundly. Mediated by algorithms and the technological affordances of smartphones, users are now able to access a plethora of profiles in their search for future partners. At least in principal, mating and dating are freed from spatial and social constraints. At the center of this phenomenon, however, are processes of intimate valuation. My research focuses on the practices, constellations and discourses of intimate valuation in mobile dating: While navigating LBMDAs, people construct identities and evaluate their relative intimate worth; they are embedded in social relations, rules and infrastructures that influence their valuations; and they are woven into stories that help them make sense of their practices.
