The GUIDE-AI project aims to establish structured international cooperation on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and public health. Although there are numerous national initiatives, these have so far been primarily clinically oriented. Given the rapid integration of AI into healthcare systems, there is an urgent need for interdisciplinary and transnational dialogue on issues of transparency, accountability, and fairness with regard to the governance, implementation, and use of AI for population health and prevention. To fill this gap, our initiative brings together researchers from Germany, Italy, France, Canada, and Turkey to build strong transatlantic cooperation. This will form the basis for a follow-up project to map stakeholders and develop policy guidelines for the use of AI tools in healthcare and public health. The partnership combines expertise from public health, AI in medicine, human-computer interaction, and policy analysis. This combination of disciplines and perspectives is crucial for future research that is both methodologically sound and politically relevant. The activities planned between June and November 2026 to establish international cooperation include:

1. A five-day kick-off retreat in Bremen (June 2026) to coordinate goals and procedures.
2. A two-week research stay with a workshop in Montreal (July 2026) to involve Canadian stakeholders and institutions.
3. A one-week research stay with a workshop in Pisa (September 2026) to collaborate with Italian researchers from the Italian Society for AI in Medicine (SIIAM), which currently leads European research on the clinical use of AI.
4. Online workshops will take place between meetings to keep the group coordinated.
5. A five-day final retreat in Bremen (November 2026) to consolidate the results and prepare a joint funding application for the follow-up project.
