Specialised Information Service Social and Cultural Anthropology. 4th Term
The Qualiservice Research Data Center (FDZ) has been involved in the Specialised Information Service for Social and Cultural Anthropology (FID SKA), which is run jointly with the University Library of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, since 2019. The close cooperation was recognized by the recent approval of a further DFG funding period for the years 2025 to 2027 and enables the continuous further development of services for ethnological subjects.
Qualiservice's work packages will continue to focus on expanding archiving and re-use options for data and materials from ethnographic field research. In the future, particular attention will be paid to strengthening the re-use of archived materials. Subject-specific advice and the development of tailored training formats will also be further expanded to support researchers in the processing of their ethnographic research material.
The approved funding also paves the way for the planned transition of the FID SKA to the new FIDplus program line from 2028.Duration:01 January 2025 - 31 December 2027

Dr. Michaela Rizzolli The University Library of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is responsible for the Specialized Information Service (FID) together with the Qualiservice research data center at the University of Bremen.
In addition to providing literature and information, the FID works on the development and expansion of research-related services for the ethnological disciplines - for example in the areas of research data archiving, standard data and work platforms as well as on specific topics such as the digital consolidation and possible uses of materials and data from colonial contexts. All fields of work are embedded in extensive networking activities in the subjects and in the area of infrastructure. Further information is available at https://www.evifa.de/de.
Within the framework of FIDSKA, the “ethnological department” at Qualiservice is to be consolidated, further expanded and sustainably secured for ethnologists as a subject-specific contact and advice center for the archiving and subsequent use of ethnographic material. Workflows and solutions that have already been developed are to be optimized in use studies and the ethnographic database is to be expanded. Special focus will continue to be placed on audiovisual (observation) data, multilingual and internet-based material. The development of expertise in the ethnological subjects for the RDM of ethnographic data is to be actively promoted and a stronger focus placed on subsequent use.
In addition to consolidation, current developments at other RDCs and infrastructures will be continuously monitored and the results of the work in the FID SKA will in turn be incorporated into the NFDI, in particular QualidataNet.
